πρεσβύτης, πρεσβύτου, ὁ (πρέσβυς (see πρεσβεύω)), an old man, an aged man: Luke 1:18; Titus 2:2; Philemon 1:9 (here many (cf. R. V. marginal reading) regard the word as a substitute for πρεσβευτής, ambassador; see Lightfoots Commentary at the passage; WH's Appendix, at the passage; and add to the examples of the interchange πρεσβευτεροις in Wood, Discoveries at Ephesus, Appendix, Inscriptions from the Great Theatre, p. 24 (col. 5, 50:72)). (Aeschyl, Euripides, Xenophon, Plato, others; the Sept. for זָקֵן.)

1. an old man: Luke 1:18, Titus 2:2, Philemon 1:9 (R, txt., but v. infr.).
2. As in LXX, also = πρεσβευτής , an ambassador: Philemon 1:9 (R, mg., v. Lft. and ICC, in l).†

πρόσκλησις —
For this word = ";judicial summons,"; ";invitation,"; which is read in 1 Timothy 5:21 AD al., we may cite BGU IV. 113154 (B.C. 13) ̣μ ̣η ̣π ̣ρ [οσφέρειν ] πρόσκλη (σιν) ἢ διαστολ (ήν).
πρόσκλισις —
Like its verb, πρόσκλισις is a NT ἅπ. εἱρ., 1 Timothy 5:21, where it has the meaning of ";partiality."; It is found ter in Clem. R. (21, 47, 50).
