1. to separate, divide, put asunder: c. acc rei, opp. to συζεύγνυμι Matthew 19:6, Mark 10:9; c. acc pers., seq. ἀπό (Wisdom of Solomon 1:3), Romans 8:35; Romans 8:39; pf. pass ptcp., Hebrews 7:26.

2. In late writers, mid. and 1 aor pass., to separate oneself, depart: Philemon 1:15; seq. ἀπό Acts 1:4, ἐκ , Acts 18:1-2; of divorce (polyb., al.), 1 Corinthians 7:10-11; 1 Corinthians 7:15 (cf. ἀπο -, δια -χωρίζω ).†
