Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition
הֲדַס pl. הֲדַסִּים m. myrtle, so called (as some suppose), because it springs, i.e. grows rapidly, like salix; according to Verrius, a saliendo [“though Salix really is from ἕλιξ”], see Isid. Origg. xvii. 7. Nehemiah 8:15; Isaiah 41:19, 55:13 Zechariah 1:8, 10 Zechariah 1:10, 11 Zechariah 1:11. See Celsii Hierob. vol. ii. page l7, seqq. (Arabic هَدَسُ id. in the dialect of the Yemenites; amongst the other Arabs, this tree is called آسُ).
