II. [חַד] adjective sharp — only feminine singular חַדָּה, of חֶרֶב Ezekiel 5:1; in figure of tongue Psalm 57:5; simile of mouth Isaiah 49:2; figurative of end of (i.e. final experience with) strange woman כְּחֶרֶב פִיּוֺת׳ח Proverbs 5:4 ("" מָרָ֯ה כַלַּעֲנָה). — 1. חַד see below אֶחָד.
חַדָּה see עֵין חַדָּה.
חַד m. חֲדָא, חֲדָה f. Ch. one, for the Heb. אֶחָד, the א being cast away by aphæresis. It is used
(a) often for the indefinite article, Daniel 2:31, צְלֵם חַד “an image,” ein Bild; comp. Daniel 6:18; Ezra 4:8.
(b) fem. חֲדָח is used for the ordinal number, especially in the enumeration of years; שְׁנַת חֲדָה לְכֹרֶשׁ Germ. das Iahr Eins des Ehrus, Ezra 5:13, 6:3 Daniel 7:1.
(c) חַד prefixed to numerals, serves as a circumlocution for expressing a multifold or proportional sense. Daniel 3:19, חַד־שִׁבְעָה עַל דִּי “seven-fold more than” (in the same manner as the Syr. ܚܰܕ).
(d) כַּחֲדָה like as one, at once, i.e. together (Heb. כְּאֶחָד), Daniel 2:35.
