 כַּרְמַּס noun masculine cotton (or fine linen (loan-word from Sanskrit karpâsa, cotton, Persian fine linen; hence also κάρπασος, carbasus, Arabic Talmud כָּרְמְּסָא; compare Lag Arm. Stud. § 1148); — וּתְכֵלֶת׳חוּר כ Esther 1:6 (ᵐ5 καρπασίνοις): compare Cels. Hierob. ii. 157 ff.

כַּרְפַּס fine, white linen, or cotton cloth, Esther 1:6 Arab. كُرْفُسُ, Pers. كرباس, Gr. κάρπασος, Lat. carbasus, a species of fine linen, or flax, which is mentioned by classic writers as being produced in the East and in India, Sanscr. karpâsa, cotton; see Celsii Hierobot. t. ii. page 157.
