II. צפר (√ of following; compare Arabic peep, twitter whistle (usually of bird; onomatopoetic); Assyrian ƒapâru is cry, howl: Late Hebrew צִמּוֺר = Biblical Hebrew, so Phoenician צפרᵑ7 צִמַּר, Syriac , Mandean ציפאר, ציפרא Nö M § 102; also Arabic sparrow, etc., and (perhaps) Assyrian iƒƒuru, bird).
צָפַר
(1) to go in a circle, to revolve (see צְפִירָה ); hence to turn, to turn oneself about, Judges 7:3, “let him who is fearful and afraid וְיִצְפֹּר יָשֹׁב turn and return.”
(2) to dance in a circle, and generally, to leap, to dance. Arab. ضَفَرَ fut. I., compare גִּיל, חוּל, and מָתוֹל; whence צָפִיר a he-goat.
(3) to chirp, to twitter, as a bird (trillern), Arab. صفم. Hence צִפּוֹר, Chald. צִפַּר. See also pr.n. צוֹפַר. [The meaning given to this root in Thes. is, to pip, to chirp, as a bird.]

צָפַר i.q. ظفر to wound with claws. See צִפֹּרֶן.
