שָׂטַם fut. יִשְׂטֹם (cogn. to שָׂטַן) to lay snares for any one, to follow hostilely, Genesis 27:41, 50:15 Job 16:9, 30:21. Specially, to lay a noose or trap, whence the derivative מַשְׂטֵמָה.
