Qal Imperfect 3 masculine singular וַיִקְצָכעֵץֿ 2 Kings 6:6 he cut off a stick; Passive participle feminine plural עֵדֶר הַקְּצוּבוֺת Song of Solomon 4:2 a flock of (sheep) that are shorn (?).
קָצַב fut. יִקְצֹב
(1) to cut down, e.g. a tree, 2 Kings 6:6.
(2) to shear sheep, Song of Solomon 4:2. (Kindred roots are חָצַב, חָטַב. But all roots beginning with the letters קצ have the notion of cutting, cutting off, cutting down, as properly belonging to this stock, see קָצָה, קָצַר, קָצַץ, קָצַע, which are easily transferred to the notions of scraping (see קצע) and judging, deciding, see קָצִין. The same power belongs to the syllables חץ, גז, קט, גד, see גָּדַד, גָּזַז, חָצַץ, קָטַב.) Hence
