And the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel, afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of plunderers, until He had cast them from His sight.

until the LORD removed Israel out of His sight, as He had said by all His servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away from their own land to Assyria, as it is to this day.

He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abi 2 Chronicles 29:1ff">[fn] the daughter of Zechariah.

And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father David had done.

For he held fast to the LORD; he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the LORD had commanded Moses.

because they did not obey the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed His covenant and all that Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded; and they would neither hear nor do them.

Now look! You are trusting in the staff of this broken reed, Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.

Thus says the king: "Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he shall not be able to deliver you from his hand;

Do not listen to Hezekiah; for thus says the king of Assyria: "Make peace with me by a present and come out to me; and every one of you eat from his own vine and every one from his own fig tree, and every one of you drink the waters of his own cistern;

Isaiah 37:1-7">[xr] And so it was, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.

It may be that the LORD your God will hear all the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to reproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left."'

Surely I will send a spirit upon him, and he shall hear a rumor and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.""'

Now therefore, O LORD our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the LORD God, You alone."

Now it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the temple of Nisroch his god, that his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Then Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

Then he turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the LORD, saying,

And Hezekiah was attentive to them, and showed them all the house of his treasures--the silver and gold, the spices and precious ointment, and all [fn] his armory--all that was found among his treasures. There was nothing in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.

2 Chronicles 32:32,33">[xr] Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah--all his might, and how he made a pool and a tunnel and brought water into the city--are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

So Hezekiah rested with his fathers. Then Manasseh his son reigned in his place.

2 Chronicles 33:1-20">[xr] Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hephzibah.

For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; he raised up altars for Baal, and made a wooden image, [fn] as Ahab king of Israel had done; and he worshiped all the host of heaven [fn] and served them.
