Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus,he">[fn] his disciples, and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus) was sitting by the road.Matthew 20:29; Luke 18:35;">[xr]

So Jesus stopped and said, "Call him!" So they called the blind man and told him, "Have courage! Get up. He's calling you."

When they came near Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, Jesushe">[fn] sent two of his disciples on aheadMatthew 21:1; Luke 19:29; John 12:14;">[xr]

So they went and found the colt outside in the street tied up next to a doorway. While they were untying it,

They brought the colt to Jesus and threw their coats upon it, and he sat on it.

When they came to Jerusalem, he went into the temple and began to throw out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple. He overturned the moneychangers' tables and the chairs of those who sold doves.Matthew 21:12; Luke 19:45; John 2:14;">[xr]

When the high priests and elders heard this, they began to look for a way to kill him. For they were afraid of him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.Matthew 7:28; 21:45-46; Mark 1:22; Luke 4:32; 19:47;">[xr]

When evening came, Jesus and his disciplescame, they">[fn] would leave the city.

Then they went into Jerusalem again. While Jesushe">[fn] was walking in the temple, the high priests, the scribes, and the elders came to himMatthew 21:23; Luke 20:1;">[xr]

Again, the manhe">[fn] sent another servant to them. They beat the servanthim">[fn] over the head and treated him shamefully.

Then the manhe">[fn] sent another, and that one they killed. So it was with many other servants.with many others">[fn] Some of these they beat, and others they killed.

So they grabbed him, killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.

They were trying to arrest him but were afraid of the crowd. Realizing that he had spoken this parable against them, they left him alone and went away.Matthew 21:45-46; Mark 11:18; John 7:25,30, 44;">[xr]

Then they sent some Pharisees and some Herodians[fn] to him, intending to trap him in what he said.Matthew 22:15; Luke 20:20;">[xr]

They came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere. You don't favor any individual, for you pay no attention to external appearance. Rather, you teach the way of God truthfully. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay them or should we not?"

So they brought one. Then he asked them, "Whose face and name is this?" They said to him, "Caesar's."

So Jesus said to them, "Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were utterly amazed at him.

They devour widows' houses[fn] and say long prayers to cover it up. They will receive greater condemnation!"Matthew 23:14;">[xr]

Many will come in my name and say, 'I am he,' and they will deceive many people.
