Then Jeremiah the man of God told all this to King Zedekiah of Judah in Jerusalem,

"This is what the Lord God of Israel says: ‘I made an agreement with your fathers when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the house where they were made to work. I said to them,

And I brought them into the house of the Lord, into the room of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, the man of God. This room was near the room of the leaders and above the room of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the doorkeeper.

"This is what the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says: ‘Go and say to the men of Judah and the people of Jerusalem, "Will you not learn by listening to My words?" says the Lord.

So the Lord, the God of All, the God of Israel, says, ‘I am bringing on Judah and on all the people of Jerusalem all the trouble I have said would come upon them. For I spoke to them but they did not listen. I have called them but they did not answer.'"

Then Jeremiah said to those of the Rechabite family, "This is what the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have obeyed everything that Jonadab your father told you to do.

And so the Lord of All, the God of Israel, says, "Jonadab the son of Rechab will never be without a man to stand before Me."'"

Baruch the son of Neriah did all that Jeremiah the man of God told him. He read from the book the words of the Lord in the Lord's house.

And the king told Jerahmeel the king's son, Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to take hold of Baruch the writer and Jeremiah the man of God. But the Lord had hidden them.

But he and his servants and the people of the land would not listen to what the Lord said through Jeremiah the man of God.

King Zedekiah sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the religious leader, to Jeremiah the man of God, saying, "Pray to the Lord our God for us."

Then the Word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the man of God, saying,

"This is what the Lord God of Israel says: ‘Tell the king of Judah, who sent you to ask Me what will happen, "See, Pharaoh's army which has come to help you is going to return to its own land of Egypt.

While he was at the Gate of Benjamin, a soldier was there watching. His name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah. He took hold of Jeremiah the man of God, saying, "You are going over to the Babylonians!"

"My lord the king, these men have been very sinful in all they have done to Jeremiah the man of God. They have put him in the well. And he will die there of hunger, for there is no more bread in the city."

Then the king told Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, "I am giving you the power to take thirty men with you, and bring Jeremiah the man of God up from the well before he dies."

King Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah the man of God and had him brought to him at the third door of the house of the Lord. And the king said to him, "I am going to ask you something. Do not hide anything from me."

Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "This is what the Lord God of All, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you will go out to the captains of the king of Babylon, then you will live. This city will not be burned with fire, and you and those of your house will live.

"Go and tell Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, ‘This is what the Lord of All, the God of Israel says: "I will bring My words on this city for bad and not for good. And they will happen in front of you at that time.

The captain of the prison soldiers took Jeremiah and said to him, "The Lord your God promised this trouble against this place.
