Would you show partiality to himor argue the case in his defense?

Would God’s majesty not terrify you?Would his dread not fall on you?

Since a person’s days are determinedand the number of his months depends on you,and since you have set limits he cannot pass,

look away from him and let him restso that he can enjoy his day like a hired worker.

But a person dies and fades away;he breathes his last—where is he?

You completely overpower him, and he passes on;you change his appearance and send him away.

If his sons receive honor, he does not know it;if they become insignificant, he is unaware of it.

He feels only the pain of his own bodyand mourns only for himself.

If God puts no trust in his holy onesand the heavens are not pure in his sight,

A wicked person writhes in pain all his days,throughout the number of years reserved for the ruthless.

Dreadful sounds fill his ears;when he is at peace, a robber attacks him.

For he has stretched out his hand against Godand has arrogantly opposed the Almighty.

He rushes headlong at himwith his thick, studded shields.

Though his face is covered with fatand his waistline bulges with it,
