how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly,

not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.

And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.

For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,

Now the apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

But the voice answered me again from heaven, "What God has cleansed you must not call common.'

If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?"

When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life."

When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.

Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant [fn] prayer was offered to God for him by the church.

And the people kept shouting, "The voice of a god and not of a man!"

Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

But the word of God grew and multiplied.

And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant.

who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.

Then Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen:

The God of this people Israel [fn] chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm He brought them out of it.

And afterward they asked for a king; so God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

From this man's seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior--Jesus-- [fn]
