So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink.

For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken;

When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.

One day, while he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting near by (they had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem); and the power of the Lord was with him to heal.

Just then some men came, carrying a paralyzed man on a bed. They were trying to bring him in and lay him before Jesus;

but finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the middle of the crowd in front of Jesus.

Amazement seized all of them, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, "We have seen strange things today."

Then they said to him, "John's disciples, like the disciples of the Pharisees, frequently fast and pray, but your disciples eat and drink."

The days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days."

The scribes and the Pharisees watched him to see whether he would cure on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him.

Even though he knew what they were thinking, he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come and stand here." He got up and stood there.

But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured.

"Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man.

Fear seized all of them; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has risen among us!" and "God has looked favorably on his people!"

(And all the people who heard this, including the tax collectors, acknowledged the justice of God, because they had been baptized with John's baptism.

"To what then will I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like?

They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.'

He said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but to others I speak in parables, so that ‘looking they may not perceive, and listening they may not understand.'

The ones on the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.
