For he shall deliver the needy from the mighty, the poor also, who has no helper.

His name shall endure for ever; his name shall be continued as long as the sun; and men shall be blessed in him; all nations shall call him blessed.

But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

O GOD, why hast thou cast us off for ever? Why hath thine anger become inflamed against the sheep of thy flock?

Thine enemies exalted themselves in the midst of thy feasts; they set up their banners for signs.

They did not see the wonders thereof; for there is no more any prophet, neither is there among us any wise man.

O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?

For God is our King, who of old has commanded the salvation of Jacob.

O deliver not to destruction the soul that confesses to thee; forget not the souls of thy poor for ever.

Respect thy covenant, O LORD; for the habitations of the earth are full of ignorance and cruelty.

For defence comes neither from the west nor from the east nor from the desert mountains.

For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, full of a mixture of the dregs of wine; and he passes it from one to another; surely all the wicked of the earth shall drink the dregs thereof.
