Now there were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and died without children;

and the third took her, and likewise all seven left no children and died.

But Jesus turning to them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

They answered him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do what Abraham did,

and not for the nation only, but to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, 'Where I am going you cannot come.'

Jesus said to them, "Children, have you any fish?" They answered him, "No."

For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him."

this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm, 'Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee.'

And when our days there were ended, we departed and went on our journey; and they all, with wives and children, brought us on our way till we were outside the city; and kneeling down on the beach we prayed and bade one another farewell.

and they have been told about you that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or observe the customs.

a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth--

it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

because the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the glorious liberty of the children of God.

and not all are children of Abraham because they are his descendants; but "Through Isaac shall your descendants be named."

This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are reckoned as descendants.

And not only so, but also when Rebecca had conceived children by one man, our forefather Isaac,

And as Isaiah predicted, "If the Lord of hosts had not left us children, we would have fared like Sodom and been made like Gomor'rah."
