Come, my people, enter into your chambers, and shut your doors about you: hide yourself for a little moment, until the indignation has passed by.

For, look, Yahweh comes forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness: there the calf shall feed, and there he shall lie down, and consume the branches thereof.

When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off; the women shall come, and set them on fire; for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have compassion on them, and he that formed them will show them no favor.

For all tables are full of vomit [and] filthiness, [so that there is] no place [clean].

For it is precept on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little.

Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and we are at agreement with Sheol; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood we have hid ourselves:

therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh, Look, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner-[stone] of sure foundation: he that believes shall not be in a hurry.

As often as it passes through, it shall take you; for morning by morning it shall pass through, by day and by night: and it shall be nothing but terror to understand the message.

For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it; and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.

For Yahweh will rise up as in mount Perazim, he will be angry as in the valley of Gibeon; that he may do his work, his strange work, and bring to pass his act, his strange act.

Now therefore don't be scoffers, or else your bonds will be made strong; for a decree of destruction I have heard from the Lord, Yahweh of hosts, on the whole earth.

For his God instructs him aright, [and] teaches him.

For the fitches are not threshed with a sharp [threshing] instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about on the cumin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cumin with a rod.

Bread [grain] is ground; for he will not always be threshing it: and though the wheel of his cart and his horses scatter it, he does not grind it.

For Yahweh has poured out on you the spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes, the prophets; and your heads, the seers, he has covered.

And all vision has become to you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray you; and he says, I can't, for it is sealed:

For the terrible one is brought to nothing, and the scoffer ceases, and all those that watch for iniquity are cut off;

that make man an offender in [his] cause, and lay a snare for him that reproves in the gate, and turn aside the just with a thing of nothing.

For their princes are at Zoan, and their ambassadors have come to Hanes.
