Terah took his son Abram, and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram and they went together from Ur of the Chaldeans to the land of Canaan. But when they went as far as Haran, they made their home there.

Abram took his wife Sarai, and his brother's son Lot, and all the things they had gathered, and the people who joined them in Haran. And they left to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.

When the men of Egypt see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.' And they will kill me, but they will let you live.

Say that you are my sister. Then it may go well with me because of you. And because of you they will not kill me."

And Pharaoh told his men what to do with Abram. They led him away with his wife and all that belonged to him.

So Lot chose all the Jordan valley for himself. And as Lot traveled east, they went apart from each other.

that they made war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).

Then they turned around and came to Enmishpat (that is, Kadesh). There they won a war against all the country of the Amalekites and the Amorites who lived in Hazazon-tamar.

They fought against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar, four kings against five.

They also took Lot, the son of Abram's brother, who lived in Sodom, and all that belonged to him, and left.

When Abram heard that one of his family had been taken away, he led 318 men who had been born in his house and whom he had taught to fight. They went after them as far as Dan.

Abram divided his army against them by night, he and his servants. They won the war against them, and followed them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.

Then Abram returned with all the things they had taken. He also returned with his brother's son Lot and all that belonged to him, and the women and the people.

God said to Abram, "Know for sure that your children and those born after them will be strangers in a land that is not theirs. There they will be servants and suffer for 400 years.

But I will punish the nation they will serve. And later they will come out with many riches.

He took milk and cheese and the meat which he had made ready, and set it in front of them. He stood by them under the tree while they ate.

Then they said to him, "Where is your wife Sarah?" And he said, "There in the tent."

Now Abraham and Sarah were old. They had lived many years. The way of women had stopped for Sarah.

I will now go down and see if they have done as much wrong as the cry against them has told Me they have. And if not, I will know."

and said, "My lords, come into the house of your servant. Stay the night, and wash your feet. Then you may rise early and go on your way." But they said, "No, we will stay the night in the street."
