And He said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings out of his treasure things new and old."

And He came to His hometown and began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?

Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?

And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this man get all these things?"

And they were taking offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household."

and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him."

For when Herod had John arrested, he bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.

And although he was grieved, the king commanded it to be given because of his oaths, and because of his dinner guests.

And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.

And his disciples came and took away the body and buried it; and they went and reported to Jesus.

And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and *said to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?"

and they were pleading with Him that they might just touch the fringe of His garment; and as many as touched it were cured.

But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, "Whatever you might benefit from me is given to God,"

he need not honor his father.' And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and were pleading with Him, saying, "Send her away, because she keeps shouting at us."

And large crowds came to Him, bringing with them those who were lame, crippled, blind, mute, and many others, and they laid them down at His feet; and He healed them.

And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, "I feel compassion for the crowd, because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way."

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, saying, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"

From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day.

Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
