then he took Him into his arms and blessed God, and said,

And His father and mother were marveling at the things which were being said about Him.

And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed—

And His parents would go to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.

and as they were returning, after finishing the days of the Feast, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But His parents did not know.

And all who heard Him were astounded at His understanding and His answers.

When they saw Him, they were astonished, and His mother said to Him, "Child, why have You treated us this way? Behold, Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You."

And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them, and His mother was treasuring all these things in her heart.

Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,

as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,"The voice of one crying in the wilderness,‘Make ready the way of the Lord,Make His paths straight.

John answered, saying to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water, but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the strap of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

His winnowing fork is in His hand to thoroughly clear His threshing floor and to gather the wheat into His barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

But when Herod the tetrarch was reproved by him because of Herodias, his brother's wife, and because of all the wicked things which Herod had done,

When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, the son of Eli,

for it is written,‘He will command His angels concerning You to guard You,'

And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read.

And all were speaking well of Him and marveling at the gracious words which were coming forth from His lips, and they were saying, "Is this not Joseph's son?"

And He said, "Truly I say to you, no prophet is welcome in his hometown.

But passing through their midst, He went on His way.

and they were amazed at His teaching, for His message was with authority.
