Go up into this mountain of `Avarimen, to Mount Nevo, which is in the land of Mo'av, that is over against Yericho; and see the land of Kana`an, which I give to the children of Yisra'el for a possession;

because you trespassed against me in the midst of the children of Yisra'el at the waters of Merivah of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Tzin; because you didn't sanctify me in the midst of the children of Yisra'el.

For you shall see the land before you; but you shall not go there into the land which I give the children of Yisra'el.

This is the blessing, with which Moshe the man of God blessed the children of Yisra'el before his death.

Who said of his father, and of his mother, I have not seen him; Neither did he acknowledge his brothers, Nor knew he his own children: For they have observed your word, Keep your covenant.

Of Asher he said, Blessed be Asher with children; Let him be acceptable to his brothers, Let him dip his foot in oil.

The children of Yisra'el wept for Moshe in the plains of Mo'av thirty days: so the days of weeping in the mourning for Moshe were ended.

Yehoshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moshe had laid his hands on him: and the children of Yisra'el listened to him, and did as the LORD commanded Moshe.

Moshe my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Yarden, you, and all this people, to the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Yisra'el.

It was told the king of Yericho, saying, Behold, there came men in here tonight of the children of Yisra'el to search out the land.

Yehoshua rose up early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to the Yarden, he and all the children of Yisra'el; and they lodged there before they passed over.

Yehoshua said to the children of Yisra'el, Come here, and hear the words of the LORD your God.

Then Yehoshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Yisra'el, out of every tribe a man:

and Yehoshua said to them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Yarden, and take up every man of you a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Yisra'el;

that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in time to come, saying, What do you mean by these stones?

then you shall tell them, Because the waters of the Yarden were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over the Yarden, the waters of the Yarden were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Yisra'el forever.

The children of Yisra'el did so as Yehoshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Yarden, as the LORD spoke to Yehoshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Yisra'el; and they carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

The children of Re'uven, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Menashsheh, passed over armed before the children of Yisra'el, as Moshe spoke to them:

He spoke to the children of Yisra'el, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

Then you shall let your children know, saying, Yisra'el came over this Yarden on dry land.
