And immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink.

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and gave up His spirit.

And many women were there watching from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee while caring for Him.

Now when it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea came, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.

And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.

Pilate said to them, "You have a guard; go, make it as secure as you know how."

And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone, and sat upon it.

And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,

John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and his diet was locusts and wild honey.

And immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon Him;

and a voice came from the heavens: "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased."

As He was going along the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen.

And going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, who were also in the boat mending the nets.

Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

After throwing him into convulsions and crying out with a loud voice, the unclean spirit came out of him.

And they were all amazed, so they debated among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him."

Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and they immediately spoke to Jesus about her.

And in the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and prayed there for a time.
