The Lord said to Moses, "Take Joshua son of Nun, a capable man, and place your hands on his head.

As the Lord had commanded, Moses put his hands on Joshua's head and proclaimed him as his successor.

When a man makes a vow to give something to the Lord or takes an oath to abstain from something, he must not break his promise, but must do everything that he said he would.
