He said to them, "Go and tell that fox for me, ‘Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work.

Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please accept my regrets.'

But when he came to himself he said, ‘How many of my father's hired hands have bread enough and to spare, but here I am dying of hunger!

I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me like one of your hired hands."'

Then the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

Then the manager said to himself, ‘What will I do, now that my master is taking the position away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg.

I have decided what to do so that, when I am dismissed as manager, people may welcome me into their homes.'

He called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames.'

The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

Then Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."

And he said, "Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he!' and, ‘The time is near!' Do not go after them.

For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

And he said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death!"

A little later someone else, on seeing him, said, "You also are one of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am not!"

All of them asked, "Are you, then, the Son of God?" He said to them, "You say that I am."

And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."

He confessed and did not deny it, but confessed, "I am not the Messiah."

And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" He answered, "No."

He said, "I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,'" as the prophet Isaiah said.
