Jesus and his disciples left Galilee and went up to the villages near Caesarea Philippi. As they were walking along, he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"

Then he asked them, "But who do you say I am?" Peter replied, "You are the Messiah."

But Jesus said to them, "You don't know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of suffering I am about to drink? Are you able to be baptized with the baptism of suffering I must be baptized with?"

"But now, as to whether the dead will be raised—haven't you ever read about this in the writings of Moses, in the story of the burning bush? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said to Moses, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'

for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.' They will deceive many.

Greatly distressed, each one asked in turn, "Am I the one?"

But after I am raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there."

Jesus asked them, "Am I some dangerous revolutionary, that you come with swords and clubs to arrest me?

Jesus said, " I am . And you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God's right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven."

Then the angel said, "I am Gabriel! I stand in the very presence of God. It was he who sent me to bring you this good news!

Mary asked the angel, "But how can this happen? I am a virgin."

Mary responded, "I am the Lord's servant. May everything you have said about me come true." And then the angel left her.

Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me?

John answered their questions by saying, "I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I'm not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Jesus reached out and touched him. "I am willing," he said. "Be healed!" And instantly the leprosy disappeared.

So Jesus went with them. But just before they arrived at the house, the officer sent some friends to say, "Lord, don't trouble yourself by coming to my home, for I am not worthy of such an honor.

I am not even worthy to come and meet you. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.

I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,' and they go, or ‘Come,' and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,' they do it."

John is the man to whom the Scriptures refer when they say, ‘Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way before you.'

One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only his disciples were with him, and he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"
