From Kibroth-hattaavah the people moved on to Hazeroth, where they remained for some time.

Then Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses because of the Cushite woman he had married, for he had taken a Cushite wife.

But the LORD answered Moses, "If her father had but spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Let her be confined outside the camp for seven days; after that she may be brought back in."

So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on until she was brought in again.

Is the soil fertile or unproductive? Are there trees in it or not? Be courageous, and bring back some of the fruit of the land." (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.)

and they went back to Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran at Kadesh. They brought back a report for all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "We must go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly conquer it!"

But the men who had gone up with him replied, "We cannot go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are!"

Why is the LORD bringing us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and children will become plunder. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?"

Only do not rebel against the LORD, and do not be afraid of the people of the land, for they will be like bread for us. Their protection has been removed, and the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them!"

But Moses said to the LORD, "The Egyptians will hear of it, for by Your strength You brought this people from among them.

Now since the Amalekites and Canaanites are living in the valleys, turn back tomorrow and head for the wilderness along the route to the Red Sea."

But as for you, your bodies will fall in this wilderness.

Your children will be shepherds in the wilderness for forty years, and they will suffer for your unfaithfulness until the last of your bodies lie scattered in the wilderness.

In keeping with the forty days you spied out the land, you shall bear your guilt forty years-a year for each day-and you will experience My alienation.

For there the Amalekites and Canaanites will face you, and you will fall by the sword. Because you have turned away from the LORD, He will not be with you."

This is to be done for each bull, ram, lamb, or goat.

And for the generations to come, if a foreigner residing with you or someone else among you wants to prepare an offering made by fire as a pleasing aroma to the LORD, he is to do exactly as you do.

The assembly is to have the same statute for both you and the foreign resident; it is a permanent statute for the generations to come. You and the foreigner shall be the same before the LORD.

The priest is to make atonement for the entire congregation of Israel, so that they may be forgiven; for the sin was unintentional, and they have brought to the LORD an offering made by fire and a sin offering, presented before the LORD for their unintentional sin.
