"You shall also measure outside the city on the east side two thousand cubits, on the south side two thousand cubits, on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits, with the city in the center. This shall become theirs as pasture lands for the cities.

"The total number of the cities which you are to give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities, together with their pasture lands.

'But if he struck him with an iron object, so that he died, he is a murderer; the murderer must be put to death.

'And if he struck him with a stone in the hand, by which he would die, and as a result he did die, he is a murderer; the murderer must be put to death.

'Or if he struck him with a wooden object in the hand, by which he would die, and as a result he did die, he is a murderer; the murderer must be put to death.

'Now if he pushed him in hatred, or he threw something at him with malicious intent, and as a result he died,

or if he struck him with his hand with hostility, and as a result he died, the one who struck him must be put to death; he is a murderer. The blood avenger shall put the murderer to death when he meets him.

then the congregation shall judge between the one who fatally struck the victim and the blood avenger in accordance with these ordinances.

'And the congregation shall save the one who committed manslaughter from the hand of the blood avenger, and the congregation shall return him to his city of refuge to which he fled; and he shall live in it until the death of the high priest who was anointed with the holy oil.

Then Moses commanded the sons of Israel in accordance with the word of the LORD, saying, "The tribe of the sons of Joseph is right in its statements.

They married those from the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained with the tribe of the family of their father.

In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, in accordance with everything that the LORD had commanded him to declare to them,

"Then I ordered your judges at that time, saying, 'Hear the cases between your fellow countrymen and judge righteously between a person and his fellow countryman, or the stranger who is with him.

"The LORD was angry with me also on your account, saying, 'Not even you shall enter there.

"You are to buy food from them with money so that you may eat, and you shall also purchase water from them with money so that you may drink.

"For the LORD your God has blessed you in all that you have done; He has known your wandering through this great wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have not lacked anything."'

'Arise, set out, and pass through the Valley of Arnon. Look! I have handed over to you Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; start taking possession and plunge into battle with him.

"So I sent messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,

"Then Sihon came out with all his people to meet us in battle at Jahaz.

"And the LORD our God turned him over to us, and we defeated him with his sons and all his people.
