Fearing that we might run aground on the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and began praying for daylight to come.

So they cut the anchors free and left them in the sea. At the same time they untied the ropes that held the steering oars, raised the foresail to the wind, and headed for the beach.

The governor of the island, whose name was Publius, owned estates in that part of the island, and he welcomed us and entertained us with great hospitality for three days.

We stopped at Syracuse and stayed there for three days.

There we found some brothers and were invited to stay with them for seven days. And so we came to Rome.
