Elisha Promises Food But Elisha said, "Hear the word of the Lord : thus says the Lord , Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria." Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned said to the man of God, "If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could this thing be?" But he said, "You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it." Now there were four men who were lepers at the entrance to the gate. And they said to one another, "Why are we sitting here until we die?

Now the king had appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to have charge of the gate. And the people trampled him in the gate, so that he died, as the man of God had said when the king came down to him.

For when the man of God had said to the king, "Two seahs of barley shall be sold for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, about this time tomorrow in the gate of Samaria,"

the captain had answered the man of God, "If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could such a thing be?" And he had said, "You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it."

So the woman arose and did according to the word of the man of God. She went with her household and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.

Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, "Tell me all the great things that Elisha has done."

Now Elisha came to Damascus. Ben-hadad the king of Syria was sick. And when it was told him, "The man of God has come here,"

the king said to Hazael, "Take a present with you and go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the Lord through him, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this sickness?'"

And he fixed his gaze and stared at him, until he was embarrassed. And the man of God wept.

So he arose and went into the house. And the young man poured the oil on his head, saying to him, "Thus says the Lord , the God of Israel, I anoint you king over the people of the Lord , over Israel.

But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the Lord , the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin.

Then the man of God was angry with him and said, "You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck down Syria until you had made an end of it, but now you will strike down Syria only three times."

He restored the border of Israel from Lebo-hamath as far as the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord , the God of Israel, which he spoke by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from Gath-hepher.

Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord his God, as his father David had done,

And this occurred because the people of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods

And the people of Israel did secretly against the Lord their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city.

But they would not listen, but were stubborn, as their fathers had been, who did not believe in the Lord their God.

And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made for themselves metal images of two calves; and they made an Asherah and worshiped all the host of heaven and served Baal.

Judah also did not keep the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the customs that Israel had introduced.

So the king of Assyria was told, "The nations that you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they are killing them, because they do not know the law of the god of the land."
