(vi) "I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.

"Tell the people of Isra'el, ‘You are to observe my Shabbats; for this is a sign between me and you through all your generations; so that you will know that I am Adonai , who sets you apart for me.

Observe what I am ordering you to do today. Here! I am driving out ahead of you the Emori, Kena‘ani, Hitti, P'rizi, Hivi and Y'vusi.

For I am going to expel nations ahead of you and expand your territory, and no one will even covet your land when you go up to appear before Adonai your God three times a year.

For I am Adonai your God; therefore, consecrate yourselves and be holy, for I am holy; and do not defile yourselves with any kind of swarming creature that moves along the ground.

(Maftir) For I am Adonai , who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God. Therefore you are to be holy, because I am holy.

"When you have entered the land of Kena‘an which I am giving you as a possession, and I put an infection of tzara‘at in a house in the land that you possess,

"Speak to the people of Isra'el; tell them, ‘I am Adonai your God.

You are not to engage in the activities found in the land of Egypt, where you used to live; and you are not to engage in the activities found in the land of Kena‘an, where I am bringing you; nor are you to live by their laws.

You are to obey my rulings and laws and live accordingly; I am Adonai your God.

You are to observe my laws and rulings; if a person does them, he will have life through them; I am Adonai .

(LY: vi) "‘None of you is to approach anyone who is a close relative in order to have sexual relations; I am Adonai .

"‘You are not to let any of your children be sacrificed to Molekh, thereby profaning the name of your God; I am Adonai .

"‘Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things, because all the nations which I am expelling ahead of you are defiled with them.

The land has become unclean, and this is why I am punishing it — the land itself will vomit out its inhabitants.
