Then they sat down to eat. When they looked up, they saw a group of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. They were taking spices and perfumes on their camels to Egypt.

Some Midianite traders were passing by. So the brothers pulled Joseph up out of the hole. And they sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver, and they took Joseph to Egypt.

So they took Joseph's coat, killed a male goat, and put the blood on the coat.

They sent the coat of many colors to their father. And they said, "We found this. Is it your son's coat or not?"

Judah saw that they belonged to him. He said, "She is more right than I, because I did not give her to my son Shelah." And he did not lie with her again.

The head of the soldiers had Joseph watch over them. He took care of them, and they were in prison for a long time.

One night both the cup-carrier and the bread-maker of the king of Egypt had a dream while they were in prison. Each man had his own dream, and each dream had its own meaning.

When Joseph came in and looked at them in the morning, he saw that they were sad.

They said to him, "We have had a dream and there is no one to tell us what it means." Then Joseph said to them, "Do not the meanings of dreams belong to God? Tell them to me."

For I was stolen from the land of the Hebrews. And here also I have done nothing for which they should put me in prison."

And he saw seven cows coming out of the Nile. They were good-looking and fat, and they ate the grass beside the river.

Then he saw seven other cows coming out of the Nile after them. They looked bad and were thin. They stood by the other cows beside the Nile.

Then he fell asleep and dreamed a second time. He saw seven heads of grain growing on one stick of grain. They were large and full.

Pharaoh then called for Joseph. And they brought him out of the prison in a hurry. He cut off the hair on his face and put on clean clothes. Then he came to Pharaoh.

I saw seven cows coming out of the Nile. They were fat and good-looking, and they ate the grass beside the river.

Then I saw seven other cows coming after them. They looked bad and were thin. I had never seen worse cows in all the land of Egypt.

I saw also in my dream seven heads of grain growing on one stick of grain. They were large and full.

Then I saw seven heads of grain come after them. They were small and were dry because of the east wind.

He had him travel in his second wagon of honor. And they called out in front of him, "Bow down!" Pharaoh put him in power over all the land of Egypt.

When Joseph saw his brothers, he knew who they were. But he acted like a stranger and spoke sharp words to them. He said, "Where have you come from?" They answered, "From the land of Canaan, to buy food."
