But because I love you, I make a request instead. I do this even though I am Paul, the ambassador of Christ Jesus, and at present also a prisoner for his sake.

I am sending him back to you now, and with him goes my heart.

I would like to keep him here with me, while I am in prison for the gospel's sake, so that he could help me in your place.

I am sure, as I write this, that you will do what I ask—in fact I know that you will do even more.

I think it only right for me to stir up your memory of these matters as long as I am still alive.

We were there when he was given honor and glory by God the Father, when the voice came to him from the Supreme Glory, saying, "This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased!"

From the Elder— To the dear Lady and to her children, whom I truly love. And I am not the only one, but all who know the truth love you,

And so I ask you, dear Lady: let us all love one another. This is no new command I am writing you; it is the command which we have had from the beginning.
