And watch, for if it goes up by the way of the border which goes up to Beth-shemesh, then it is the LORD who has done us this great evil; but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that afflicted us, but it has happened to us by chance.

AND the men of Koriath-narin came, and took up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab on the hill, and Abinadab consecrated Eleazar his son, who kept the ark of the LORD.

And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

And he always returned to Ramtha; for there was his house, and there he judged Israel, and there he built an altar to the LORD.

AND it came to pass, when Samuel was old, he made his sons judges over Israel.

Now the name of his first-born son was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah; they were judges in Beer-sheba.

But his sons did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes and perverted judgment.

Then he said, This will be the law of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them for himself for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they shall run before his chariots.

And he will appoint for himself officers of thousands and officers of hundreds and officers of fifties and officers of tens. And they shall plow his ground and reap his harvest and make his implements of war and instruments for his chariots.

And he will take the best of your fields and your vineyards and your oliveyards, and give them to his servants.

And he will take the tenth of your crops and of your vineyards, and give to his officers and to his servants.

And he will take your menservants and your maidservants, and your goodly young men and your asses, and put them to his work.

He will take the tenth of your sheep; and you shall be his servants.

And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken to their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said to the men of Israel, Go every man to his city.

And the asses of Kish, Sauls father, were lost. And Kish said to Saul his son, Take now one of the servants with you, and arise, go seek the asses. And Saul arose and went, and took one of the servants with him, and they went to seek the asses of his father.

But his servant said to him, Behold, there is a man of God in this city, and he is an honorable man in the eyes of the people; all that he says comes surely to pass; now let us go there; perhaps he can tell us about the errand for which we have come.

Then Saul said to his servant, Behold, if we go, what shall we bring to the man of God? For the bread is spent in our bags and there are no provisions to bring a present to the man of God, because we have nothing.

And the servant answered his master again, and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver; let us give it to the man of God, that he may tell us about our errand.

Then Saul said to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went to the city where the man of God was.

And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the house, and gave them a place at the head of those who were invited, who were about thirty persons.
