And David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken captive, and he rescued his two wives that day.

Then answered some of Davids men who were evil and wicked, and said, Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any portion of the spoil which we have recovered, save that every man may take his wife and his children.

For who will hearken to you in this matter? For as his portion is who goes down to battle, so shall his portion be who tarries by the baggage: they shall divide alike.

And to those who were in Hebron and to all the places in which David and his men had traveled.

And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan and Jeshui and Melchishua, Sauls sons.

Then Saul said to his armorbearer, Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and slay me and abuse me. But his armorbearer would not; for he was exceedingly afraid. Thereupon Saul took his sword and fell upon it.

And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.

So Saul died, and his three sons and his armorbearer and also all his servants, that same day together.

And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley of the Jordan saw that the men of Israel fled and that Saul and his sons were slain, they abandoned the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

And on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa.

And they cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and sent messengers to publish the news in the land of the Philistines and among the people and in the house of their idols.

And they put his armor in the house of Ashtaroth; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-jashan.

Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul and to his sons,

All the valiant men arose and marched all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-jashan, and brought them to Jabesh and burnt them there.

It came to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes torn and earth upon his head; and so it was that when he came to David, he fell to the earth and did obeisance.

And David said to him, What is the news? Tell me. And he answered, The people fled from the battle, and many of them also have fallen; and Saul and Jonathan his son are also dead.

And David said to the young man, Tell me, how did Saul and Jonathan his son die?

And the young man said to him, I happened by chance to be on mount Gilboa, and behold, Saul was leaning upon his spear; and lo, the chariots and horsemen overtook him.

So I stood over him and slew him, because I knew that he could not live after he had fallen; and I took the crown that was upon his head and the bracelet that was on his arm, and I have brought them here to my lord.

Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them; and likewise all the men who were with him;
