Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's attendant, and said to him, All that pertained to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master's son.

Then Ziba said to the king, According to all that my lord the king commands his slave, so shall your slave do. As for Mephibaal, [the king said], he shall eat at my table, as one of the king's sons.

So Mephibaal dwelt in Jerusalem; for he ate continually at the king's table. And he was lame in both his feet.

And it came to pass after this, that the king of the sons of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.

And David said, I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me. So David sent by his slaves to comfort him concerning his father. And David's slaves came into the land of the sons of Ammon.

But the princes of the sons of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? has not David sent his slaves to you to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?

And the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the sons of Ammon.

Be strong and we shall be strengthened for our people, and for the cities of our God: and Yahweh shall do that which is good in his eyes.

And it came to pass, at the return of the year, at the time when kings go out [to battle], that David sent Joab, and his slaves with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the sons of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem.

And it came to pass at evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked on the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful to look at.

But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the slaves of his lord, and didn't go down to his house.

And when they had told David, saying, Uriah didn't go down to his house, David said to Uriah, Aren't you coming from a journey? why didn't you go down to your house?

And when David had called him, he ate and drank before him; and he made him drunk: and at evening he went out to lie on his bed with the slaves of his lord, but didn't go down to his house.

And when the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased Yahweh.

but the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his sons; it ate of his own morsel, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was to him as a daughter.

And there came a traveler to the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that came to him, but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that came to him.

Why have you despised Yahweh, to do that which is evil in his eyes? you have smitten Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon.

And Nathan departed to his house. And Yahweh struck the child that Uriah's wife bore to David, and it was very sick.

And the elders of his house arose, [and stood] beside him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

But when David saw that his slaves were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his slaves, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
