But Job replied, "You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?" So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.

He frustrates the plans of schemers so the work of their hands will not succeed.

He traps the wise in their own cleverness so their cunning schemes are thwarted.

And so at last the poor have hope, and the snapping jaws of the wicked are shut.

The caravans turn aside to be refreshed, but there is nothing to drink, so they die.

"What are people, that you should make so much of us, that you should think of us so often?

Your children must have sinned against him, so their punishment was well deserved.

For God is so wise and so mighty. Who has ever challenged him successfully?

"So who am I, that I should try to answer God or even reason with him?

Whatever happens, I will be found guilty. So what's the use of trying?

"God is not a mortal like me, so I cannot argue with him or take him to trial.

Is your lifetime only as long as ours? Is your life so short

Remember that you made me from dust— will you turn me back to dust so soon?

I have only a few days left, so leave me alone, that I may have a moment of comfort

So leave us alone and let us rest! We are like hired hands, so let us finish our work in peace.

Can the dead live again? If so, this would give me hope through all my years of struggle, and I would eagerly await the release of death.

as water wears away the stones and floods wash away the soil, so you destroy people's hope.

They betray their friends for their own advantage, so let their children faint with hunger.

You have already insulted me ten times. You should be ashamed of treating me so badly.

God has blocked my way so I cannot move. He has plunged my path into darkness.
