And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart.

And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them."

"And as for all who do not receive you, when you leave that city, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them."
And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead,

by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen.
Luke 9:8

Herod said, "John I beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?" And he sought to see him.
Luke 9:9
Herod said, "I myself had John beheaded; but who is this Man about whom I hear such things?" And he kept trying to see Him.
On their return the apostles told him all that they had done. And he took them and withdrew apart to a town called Bethsaida.
Luke 9:10
When the apostles returned, they gave an account to Him of all that they had done. And taking them with Him, He withdrew privately to a city called Bethsaida.
When the crowds learned it, they followed him, and he welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing.
Luke 9:11
But the crowds were aware of this and followed Him; and He welcomed them and began speaking to them about the kingdom of God, and curing those who had need of healing.
Now the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, "Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place."
Luke 9:12
Now the day was ending, and the twelve came up and said to Him, "Dismiss the crowd, so that they may go into the surrounding villages and countryside and find lodging and get something to eat; because here, we are in a secluded place."
But he said to them, "You give them something to eat." They said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people."

But He said to them, "You give them something to eat!" But they said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless perhaps we go and buy food for all these people."
For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each."
Luke 9:14
(For there were about five thousand men.) But He said to His disciples, "Have them recline to eat in groups of about fifty each."
And they did so, and had them all sit down.
Luke 9:15
They did so, and had them all recline.
And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
Luke 9:16
And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and, looking up to heaven, He blessed them and broke them, and gave them to the disciples again and again, to serve the crowd.
And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.
Luke 9:17
And they all ate and were satisfied; and the broken pieces which they had left over were picked up, twelve baskets full.
Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, "Who do the crowds say that I am?"
Luke 9:18
And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, "Who do the people say that I am?"
And they answered, "John the Baptist. But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen."
Luke 9:19
They answered and said, "John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen."
Then he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" And Peter answered, "The Christ of God."
Luke 9:20
And He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" And Peter answered and said, "The Christ of God."
And he strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one,
Luke 9:21
But He warned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone,
saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised."
Luke 9:22
saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised on the third day."
And he said to all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
Luke 9:23
And He was saying to them all, "If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
Luke 9:24
"For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, this is the one who will save it.
For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?
Luke 9:25
"For what good does it do a person if he gains the whole world, but loses or forfeits himself?
For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
Luke 9:26
"For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and the glory of the Father and the holy angels.
But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God."
Luke 9:27
"But I say to you truthfully, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God."
Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.
Luke 9:28
About eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter, John, and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.
And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white.
Luke 9:29
And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming.
And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah,
Luke 9:30
And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah,
who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Luke 9:31
who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure, which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him.
Luke 9:32
Now Peter and his companions had been overcome with sleep; but when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who were standing with Him.
And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah"—not knowing what he said.
Luke 9:33
And as these two men were leaving Him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here; and let's make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"—not realizing what he was saying.
As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
Luke 9:34
But while he was saying this, a cloud formed and began to overshadow them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!"
Luke 9:35
And then a voice came from the cloud, saying, "This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!"
And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.

And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent, and reported to no one in those days any of the things which they had seen.
On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him.
Luke 9:37

And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, "Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child.

And a man from the crowd shouted, saying, "Teacher, I beg You to look at my son, because he is my only son,
And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out. It convulses him so that he foams at the mouth, and shatters him, and will hardly leave him.
Luke 9:39
and a spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams, and it throws him into a convulsion with foaming at the mouth; and only with difficulty does it leave him, mauling him as it leaves.
And I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not."
Luke 9:40
"And I begged Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not."
Jesus answered, "O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here."
Luke 9:41
And Jesus answered and said, "You unbelieving and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here."
While he was coming, the demon threw him to the ground and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.

Now while he was still approaching, the demon slammed him to the ground and threw him into a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy and gave him back to his father.
And all were astonished at the majesty of God. But while they were all marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples,
Luke 9:43
And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. But while everyone was astonished at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples,
"Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men."
Luke 9:44
"As for you, let these words sink into your ears: for the Son of Man is going to be handed over to men."
But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not comprehend it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.
An argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest.
Luke 9:46
Now an argument started among them as to which of them might be the greatest.
But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a child and put him by his side
Luke 9:47
But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking in their hearts, took a child and had him stand by His side,
and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great."
Luke 9:48
and He said to them, "Whoever receives this child in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for the one who is least among all of you, this is the one who is great."
John answered, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us."
Luke 9:49
John answered and said, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name; and we tried to prevent him, because he does not follow along with us."
But Jesus said to him, "Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you."
Luke 9:50
But Jesus said to him, "Do not hinder him; for the one who is not against you is for you."
When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.
Luke 9:51
When the days were approaching for His ascension, He was determined to go to Jerusalem;
And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him.
Luke 9:52
and He sent messengers on ahead of Him, and they went and entered a village of the Samaritans to make arrangements for Him.
But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem.
Luke 9:53
And they did not receive Him, because He was traveling toward Jerusalem.
And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, "Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?"
Luke 9:54
When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?"
But he turned and rebuked them.
Luke 9:55
But He turned and rebuked them.
And they went on to another village.
Luke 9:56
And they went on to another village.
As they were going along the road, someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."
Luke 9:57
As they were going on the road, someone said to Him, "I will follow You wherever You go."
And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."
Luke 9:58
And Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."
To another he said, "Follow me." But he said, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father."
Luke 9:59
And He said to another, "Follow Me." But he said, "Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father."
And Jesus said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
Luke 9:60
But He said to him, "Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God."
Yet another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home."
Luke 9:61
Another also said, "I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say goodbye to those at my home."
Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God."
Luke 9:62
But Jesus said to him, "No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
