David’s young men went and said all these things to Nabal on David’s behalf, and they waited. When David's young men came, they spoke to Naval according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased. And when David's young men came, they spake to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased. So David's young men came and they spoke all these words to Nabal in the name of David. Then they waited. When David's young men came, they said all this to Nabal in the name of David, and then they waited. When David's men arrived, they gave the message to Nabal, but Nabal insulted them. So David's servants went and spoke all these words to Nabal in David's name. Then they paused. When David's young men came, they spoke to Nabal according to all these words in the name of David; then they waited. When David's young men came, they spoke to Nabal in accordance with all these words in David's name; then they waited. And when Dauids yong men came, they tolde Nabal all those wordes in the name of Dauid, and helde their peace. Then David's young men came and spoke to Nabal according to all these words in David's name. Then they waited. David's men went to Nabal and gave him David's message, then they waited for Nabal's answer. On arrival, David's men said all these things to Naval in David's name. When they had finished, And David's young men came, and spoke to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased. David's men went to Nabal. They gave his message to Nabal, And when Davids young men came, they spoke to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David. David's men delivered this message to Nabal in David's name. And wha Dauids yonge men came, and spake all these wordes on Dauids behalfe vnto Nabal, they lefte of. And when David's young men came, they spake to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased. And when Dauids young men came, they told Nabal all those wordes in the name of Dauid: and helde their peace. Do you think I'm going to take good bread and wine and meat freshly butchered for my sheepshearers and give it to men I've never laid eyes on? Who knows where they've come from?" When David's young men came, they spoke to Nabal according to all these words in David's name; then they waited.

And when David's young men came,.... To Carmel:

they spake to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David; they delivered their message punctually and exactly, in the very words, or however according to the purport of them, in David's name, as he enjoined them:

and ceased: from speaking, waiting for Nabal's answer; or "they rested" y, from the fatigues of their journey; which they did not until they had delivered their message to Nabal, and then they took the liberty to sit down and rest themselves; but the former sense seems best, and is preferred by Maimonides z.
