To Fight God's Battles
1 Samuel died. The whole country came to his funeral. Everyone grieved over his death, and he was buried in his hometown of Ramah. Meanwhile, David moved again, this time to the wilderness of Maon.

He had 3000 sheep and 1000 goats. That man was in Carmel taking care of some business. He went there to cut the wool from his sheep.
2 And there was a man in Maon whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very wealthy; he had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats; and it came to pass, that he sheared his sheep in Carmel.2-3 There was a man of the clan of Caleb named Nabal, who was from the town of Maon, and who owned land near the town of Carmel. He was a very rich man, the owner of three thousand sheep and one thousand goats. His wife Abigail was beautiful and intelligent, but he was a mean, bad-tempered man.

The woman was intelligent and attractive, but the man was surly and mean in his actions; he belonged to the clan of Kalev.

Greet him in my name, ‘Peace! Life and peace to you. Peace to your household, peace to everyone here! I heard that it's sheep-shearing time. Here's the point: When your shepherds were camped near us we didn't take advantage of them. They didn't lose a thing all the time they were with us in Carmel. Ask your young men—they'll tell you. What I'm asking is that you be generous with my men—share the feast! 5 And David sent out ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name: 5 So David sent ten young men, and David said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel and go to Nabal; you will greet him in my name.[g] 5 So David sent ten young men. And David said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal and greet him in my name. 5 So he sent ten young men and told them, "Go to Nabal at Carmel, and greet him for me. 5 he sent ten servants, saying to them, "Go up to Carmel to see Nabal and give him greetings in my name. 5 So David sent ten young men; and David said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel and go to Nabal, and (F1)greet him in my name;5 So David sent ten young men; and David said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel and (F1)visit Nabal, and greet him in my name;5 Therefore Dauid sent tenne yong men, & Dauid said vnto the yong men, Go vp to Carmel, and go to Nabal, & aske him in my name how he doeth.5 So David sent ten young men; and David said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel, come to Nabal, and greet him in my name;5-6 So he sent ten men to Carmel with this message for Nabal:
I hope that you and your family are healthy and that all is going well for you. 5 David sent off ten young men with these orders: "Go up to Naval in Karmel, and bring him greetings from me.
5 Then David sent out ten young men; and David said to the young men, Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name. 5 David sent ten young men to talk to Nabal. He told them, "Go to Carmel. Find Nabal and tell him ‘Hello' for me."5 And David sent out ten young men, and said to the young men, Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal and greet him in my name; 5 so he sent ten young men with orders to go to Carmel, find Nabal, and give him his greetings. 5 And David sent ten young men, and David said to the young men, Go up to Carmel, and you shall come to Nabal and ask him of his welfare in my name.5 he sent out ten yonge men, & saide vnto them: Go vp vnto Carmel, & whan ye come to Nabal, salute him frendly on my behalfe, 5 And David sent ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name: 5 And David sent ten young men, and said to them, Go up to Carmel and go to Nabal, and say kind words to him in my name;5 And Dauid sent out ten young men, and sayd vnto them: Get you vp to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greete him in my name.5 And David sent ten young men, and David said unto the young men: 'Get you up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name;5 And Dauid sent out ten yong men, and Dauid said vnto the young men, Get you vp to Carmel, and goe to Nabal, and greete him in my name; 5 And David sent ten young men, and he said to the young men, Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and ask him in my name how he is. 5 And David sent ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name: 5 So David sent ten young men and instructed them, “Go up to Nabal at Carmel. Visit Nabal and greet him for me. 5 So David sent ten young men; and David said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name. 5 David, therefore, sent ten young men, - and David said unto the young men, - Go up to Carmel, and enter in unto Nabal, and ye shall ask him, in my name, of his welfare;5 He sent ten young men, and said to them: Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and salute him in my name with peace.5 So David sent ten young men; and David said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name.5 and David sends ten young men, and David says to the young men, "Go up to Carmel, and you have come to Nabal, and asked of him in my name of welfare,5 So David sent ten young men; and David said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel, (F1)visit Nabal and greet him in my name;6 Then say this: ‘Long life to you,(F1) and peace to you, peace to your family, and peace to all that is yours.(C1) 6 and thus shall you tell him who lives [in prosperity], Shalom be to you, and shalom be to your house, and shalom be to all that you have.
6 And thus shall ye say to him that liveth in prosperity, Peace be both to thee, and peace be to thine house, and peace be unto all that thou hast. 6 Then you must say to him, ‘Long life to you, and may it go well with you, with your house, and with all that is yours.[h] 6 And thus you shall greet him: (k)‘Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have. 6 Say to Nabal, ‘May you and your family and all who belong to you have good health! 6 Then you will say to my brother, "Peace to you and your house! Peace to all that is yours! 6 and this is what you shall say, '(F1)(C1)Have a long life! Peace be to you, and peace to your house, and peace to all that you have.6 and this is what you shall say: '(F1)Have a long life, (C1)peace to you, and peace to your house, and peace to all that you have!6 And thus shal ye say for salutation, Both thou, and thine house, and all that thou hast, be in peace, wealth and prosperitie.6 and thus you shall say, '(F1)Have a long life; (C1)peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have. 6 Say, ‘Long life and shalom to you, shalom to your household, and shalom to everything that is yours!
6 And thus shall ye say: Long life [to thee]! and peace be to thee, and peace be to thy house, and peace be to all that thou hast! 6 David gave them this message for Nabal: "May you and your family be well and all that you own be well.6 And thus shall you say to him who lives in prosperity, Peace be both to you and to your house. 6 He instructed them to say to Nabal: "David sends you greetings, my friend, with his best wishes for you, your family, and all that is yours. 6 And say this, Long life and peace to you! And peace to your house, and peace to all that you have.6 & saye: Good lucke, peace be wt the & thine house, & with all yt thou hast. 6 and [b]thus shall ye say to him that liveth in prosperity, Peace be unto thee, and peace be to thy house, and peace be unto all that thou hast. 6 And say this to my brother, May all be well for you: peace be to you and your house and all you have.6 And ye shal say: So mayest thou lyue, peace be to thee, peace be to thyne house, and peace be vnto all that thou hast.6 and thus ye shall say: All hail! and peace be both unto thee, and peace be to thy house, and peace be unto all that thou hast.6 And thus shall ye say to him that liueth in prosperitie, Peace be both to thee, and peace be to thine house, and peace be vnto all that thou hast. 6 And thus shall ye say, May thou and thy house seasonably prosper, and all thine be in prosperity. 6 and thus shall ye say to him that liveth [in prosperity], Peace be both unto thee, and peace be to thine house, and peace be unto all that thou hast. 6 and say to him, ‘Long life to you, and peace to you and your house and to all that belongs to you.6 and ye schulen seie thus, Pees be to my britheren and to thee, and pees be to thin hows, and pees be to alle thingis, `what euer thingis thou hast.6 and said thus: To life! and thou, peace; and thy house, peace; and all that thou hast -- peace!6 and thus you shall say to him: To life! Peace be to you. Peace be to your family. And peace be to all that you have. 6 Thus you shall salute him: ‘Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have. 6 and say thus - Long life to thee! Mayest, thou, prosper, And, thy household, prosper, And, all that thou hast, prosper!6 And you shall say: Peace be to my brethren, and to thee, and peace to thy house, and peace to all that thou hast.6 And thus you shall salute him: 'Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have.6 and said thus to the living: And peace to you, and peace to your house, and peace to all that you have!6 and thus you shall say, '(F1)Have a long life, (C1)peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have.7 I hear that you are shearing.(F1) When your shepherds were with us, we did not harass them, and nothing of theirs was missing the whole time they were in Carmel.(C1) 7 Now I have heard that you have shearers: your shepherds have now been with us, and we did them no hurt, neither was there anything missing to them, all the while they were in Karmel.
7 And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy shepherds which were with us, we hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them, all the while they were in Carmel. 7 Now I have heard that you have shearers.[i] Now while your shepherds were with us, we did not mistreat them, and nothing of theirs was missing, all the days they were in Carmel.
