2 Samuel 7:1

When the king had settled into his palace and the Lord had given him rest on every side from all his enemies, It happened, when the king lived in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies round about, And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the Lord had given him rest round about from all his enemies; It happened that the king settled in his house. (Now Yahweh had given rest to him from all his enemies all around.) Now when the king lived in his house and the Lord had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, King David was living in his palace, and the Lord had given him peace from all his enemies around him. The king settled into his palace, for the Lord gave him relief from all his enemies on all sides. When King David lived in his house (palace) and the LORD had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, Now it came about, when the king lived in his house, and the LORD had given him rest on every side from all his enemies, Afterwarde when the King sate in his house and the Lorde had giuen him rest rounde about from all his enemies, Now it happened when the king inhabited his house, and Yahweh had given him rest on every side from all his enemies, King David moved into his new palace, and the Lord let his kingdom be at peace. Gill's Notes on the Bible

And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house,.... Which Hiram's servants had built for him, having no occasion to go out to war:

and the Lord had given him rest round about from all his enemies; both at home and abroad; though this rest and peace did not last long; for the next chapter gives an account of each of the people he was engaged in war with, 2 Samuel 8:1.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

There is no indication how soon after the bringing up of the ark these things occurred, but it was probably at no long interval.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

CHAPTER VII

David consults the prophet Nathan about building a temple for

the Lord, and is encouraged by him to do it, 1-3.

That night Nathan receives a revelation from God, stating that

Solomon, not David, should build the temple, 4-16.

Nathan delivers the Divine message, and David magnifies God for

his mercies, and makes prayer and supplication, 17-29.

NOTES ON CHAP. VII

Verse 2 Samuel 7:1. When the king sat in his house — That is, when he became resident in the palace which Hiram, king of Tyre, had built for him.

And the Lord had given him rest — This was after he had defeated the Philistines, and cast them out of all the strong places in Israel which they had possessed after the overthrow of Saul; but before he had carried his arms beyond the land of Israel, against the Moabites, Syrians, and Idumeans. See 2 Samuel 8:1-14.
