When all Israel saw the fire fall from heaven and the Glory of God fill The Temple, they fell on their knees, bowed their heads, and worshiped, thanking God : Yes! God is good! His love never quits!

Contextual Overview

1When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the [Shekinah] glory and brilliance of the LORD filled the house. 2The priests could not enter the house of the LORD because the glory and brilliance of the LORD had filled the LORD'S house. 3When all the people of Israel saw how the fire came down and saw the glory and brilliance of the LORD upon the house, they bowed down on the stone pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and praised the LORD, saying, "For He is good, for His mercy and lovingkindness endure forever." 4Then the king and all the people offered a sacrifice before the LORD. 5King Solomon offered a sacrifice of 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. In this way the king and all the people dedicated God's house. 6The priests stood at their posts [ready for service], and the Levites also, with the musical instruments of the LORD which King David had made to praise the LORD, saying, "For His lovingkindness and mercy endure forever," whenever David offered praise through their ministry. The priests were opposite the Levites blowing the trumpets and all Israel was standing. 7Moreover, Solomon consecrated the middle of the courtyard that was in front of the house of the LORD, for it was there that he offered burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings because the bronze altar which he had made was not sufficient to hold the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat [all together]. 8At that time Solomon observed the feast for seven days, and all Israel with him, a very large assembly, from the entrance of Hamath to the Brook of Egypt. 9On the eighth day they held a celebration, for they had observed the dedication of the altar for seven days, and the feast for seven days. 10And on the twenty-third day of the seventh month Solomon sent the people to their tents, rejoicing and happy in heart because of the goodness that the LORD had shown to David, to Solomon, and to His people Israel.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

Now when Solomon had made an end of praying,.... The prayer recorded in the preceding chapter:

the fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; which was the token God gave of his acceptance of them, of which there had been several instances before, Leviticus 9:24, 1 Kings 18:38,

and the glory of the Lord filled the house; the glory of the Shechinah of the Lord, as the Targum, see 1 Kings 8:11.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

The fire came down from heaven - As in the time of Moses on the dedication of the tabernacle Leviticus 9:24 The fact is omitted from the narrative of Kings; but omission is not contradiction.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

CHAPTER VII

Solomon having ended his prayer, the fire of the Lord comes

down from heaven and consumes the offerings, 1.

The people and the priests see this, and glorify God, and

offer sacrifices, 2-4.

Solomon offers twenty-two thousand oxen, and one hundred and

twenty thousand sheep; and the priests and Levites attend in

their offices, 5, 6.

He keeps the feast seven days, and the dedication of the altar

seven days, and dismisses the people, 7-11.

The Lord appears unto him by night, and assures him that he has

heard his prayer, 12-16;

promises him and his posterity a perpetual government, if they

be obedient, 17, 18;

but utter destruction should they disobey, and become idolaters,

19-22.

NOTES ON CHAP. VII

Verse 2 Chronicles 7:1. The fire came down — The cloud had come down before, now the fire consumes the sacrifice, showing that both the house and the sacrifices were accepted by the Lord.
