and this is the story about him. Noah was the only person who lived right and obeyed God.
Build a roof on the boat and leave a space of about eighteen inches between the roof and the sides. Make the boat three stories high and put a door on one side.
The Lord told Noah: Take your whole family with you into the boat, because you are the only one on this earth who pleases me.
On that day Noah and his wife went into the boat with their three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives.
I promise that you will be the father of many nations. That's why I now change your name from Abram to Abraham.
I will always keep the promise I have made to you and your descendants, because I am your God and their God.
But your son Isaac will be born about this time next year, and the promise I am making to you and your family will be for him and his descendants forever.
Go inside and lock the doors, my people. Hide there for a little while, until the Lord is no longer angry.
Because Noah had faith, he was warned about something that had not yet happened. He obeyed and built a boat that saved him and his family. In this way the people of the world were judged, and Noah was given the blessings that come to everyone who pleases God.
They had disobeyed God while Noah was building the boat, but God had been patient with them. Eight people went into that boat and were brought safely through the flood.

Therefore hear, ye nations,.... Since the Jews refused to hearken to the word of the Lord, the Gentiles are called upon to hear it, as in Acts 13:45, this is a rebuke to the Jews, that the Gentiles would hear, when they would not:
and know, O congregation; either of Israel, as the Targum and Kimchi explain it; or of the nations of the world, the multitude of them; or the church of God in the midst of them:
what is among them; among the Jews: either what evil is among them; what sins and transgressions are committed by them; which were the cause of the Lord's threatening them with sore judgments, and bringing them upon them; so Jarchi and Kimchi interpret the words; to which agrees the Targum,
"and let the congregation of Israel know their sins;''
or the punishments the Lord inflicted on them: so the Vulgate Latin version, "and know, O congregation, what I will do unto them"; which sense is confirmed by what follows:

God summons three witnesses to hear His sentence.
(1) the Gentiles.
(2) all mankind, Jews and Gentiles.
(3) nature (see Jeremiah 6:19).
What is among them - Rather, “what happens” in them; i. e., “Know what great things I will do to them.”
