She'll be an island of bare rock in the ocean, good for nothing but drying fishnets. Yes, I've said so.' Decree of God , the Master. ‘She'll be loot, free pickings for the nations! Her surrounding villages will be butchered. Then they'll realize that I am God .'

Contextual Overview

1 On the first day of the month in the eleventh year, the word of Adonai came to me: 2 "Human being, since Tzor has said against Yerushalayim, ‘Ha! She is shattered, the gateway of the peoples. Now that she is ruined, her riches will be mine'; 3 therefore, Adonai Elohim says, ‘Look, Tzor! I am against you. Just as the sea churns up its waves, I will churn up many nations against you. 4 They will destroy the walls of Tzor, they will demolish her towers. I will scrape its soil from her and reduce her to bare rock. 5 With the sea all around her, she will be a place for drying fish nets and a plunder for the nations. I have spoken,' says Adonai Elohim . 6 ‘Her daughters on the mainland will be put to death with the sword; then they will know that I am Adonai .' 7 "For here is what Adonai Elohim says: ‘I will bring upon Tzor, from the north, N'vukhadretzar king of Bavel, king of kings, with horses, chariots, cavalry, and a great and powerful army. 8 " ‘Your daughters on the mainland he will put to death with the sword. He will build siege-towers against you, he will build a ramp against you and raise a screen of shields against you. 9 He will pound your walls with his battering-rams and break down your towers with his axes. 10 His horses are so many that their dust will cover you. The thunder of cavalry, wagons and chariots will shake your walls, as he enters your gates, like men storming a city through a breach.

Bible Verse Review
  from Treasury of Scripure Knowledge

Behold: Ezekiel 26:3-6, contain a summary prediction of what befell both the continental and insular Tyre, during a long succession of ages. The former was totally destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar, after a siege of thirteen years, bc 573; and the latter, which arose out of its ruins, after seventy years recovered its ancient wealth and splendour, as foretold by Isaiah - Isaiah 23:15-17. After it was taken and burnt by Alexander, bc 332, it speedily recovered its strength and dignity, and nineteen years afterwards withstood both the fleets and armies of Antigonus. Agreeably to the prophetic declarations - Psalms 45:12, Psalms 72:10. Isaiah 23:18. Zechariah 9:1-7, it was early converted to Christianity; and after being successively taken by the Saracens, Christians, Mamalukes, and Turks, in whose hands it still remains, it became "a place for the spreading of nets."

I am: Ezekiel 5:8, Ezekiel 21:3, Ezekiel 28:22, Ezekiel 38:3, Jeremiah 21:13, Jeremiah 50:31, Nahum 2:12

Gill's Notes on the Bible

Therefore thus saith the Lord God,.... Who knew the thoughts of the inhabitants of Tyre, and what joy possessed their hearts, and which their lips expressed; and who informs the prophet of it, though at a great distance, and declares his resentment at it:

behold, I am against thee, O Tyrus; and nothing can be more dreadful and formidable than to have God against a nation, city, or a particular person: Tyre was a type of antichrist, who will express a like joy at the death of the witnesses; thinking that the merchandise of Rome will be increased greatly, and there will be nothing to interrupt it,

Revelation 11:10, but God will show his displeasure, and bring sudden destruction on it:

and will cause many nations to come up against thee, as the sea causeth his waves to come up; the Chaldean army, consisting of soldiers of many nations; who for their number, noise, and fury, are compared to the raging waves of the sea. So the Targum,

"I will bring up against thee an army of many people, as the sea ascendeth in the raging of its waves;''

the ten kings shall hate the whore, and destroy her, even those very people she reigns over, compared to many waters, Revelation 17:15.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

Verse Ezekiel 26:3. Will cause many nations to come up against thee — We have already seen that the empire of the Chaldeans was composed of many different provinces, and that Nebuchadnezzar's army was composed of soldiers from different nations: these may be the people meant; but I doubt whether this may not refer to the different nations which in successive ages fought against Tyre. It was at last finally destroyed in the sixteenth century of the Christian era.
