THE MESSAGE
God , the Master, spoke to me: "Son of man, preach. Give them the Message of God , the Master. Wail: "‘Doomsday!' Time's up! God 's big day of judgment is near. Thick clouds are rolling in. It's doomsday for the nations. Death will rain down on Egypt. Terror will paralyze Ethiopia When they see the Egyptians killed, their wealth hauled off, their foundations demolished, And Ethiopia, Put, Lud, Arabia, Libya —all of Egypt's old allies— killed right along with them.

Contextual Overview

1 The word of Adonai came to me: 2 "Human being, prophesy; say that Adonai Elohim says, ‘Wail, "Oh no! It's today!" 3 For the day is near, the Day of Adonai , a day of clouds, the time of the Goyim. 4 The sword will come against Egypt, and Ethiopia will be in anguish, when the slain fall in Egypt, when they take away her wealth, and her foundations are torn down. 5 Ethiopia, Put and Lud, all the mixed population and Kuv, and the people of allied lands will die by the sword with them.' 6 " Adonai says this: ‘Those supporting Egypt will fall; its arrogant power will be brought down; from Migdol to S'venah they will die by the sword,' says Adonai Elohim . 7 "They will be desolate even when compared with other desolate countries, likewise her cities in comparison with other ruined cities. 8 They will know that I am Adonai when I set fire to Egypt, and those supporting it are destroyed. 9 When that day comes, I will send out messengers in ships to terrify the unsuspecting Ethiopians; and anguish will overcome them on the day of Egypt. Yes, here it comes! 10 "Adonai Elohim says: ‘I will destroy the hordes of Egypt through N'vukhadretzar king of Bavel.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

The word of the Lord came again unto me,.... Whether this prophecy was delivered about the time of that in the former part of the preceding chapter, namely, in the tenth year, tenth month, and twelfth day of it; or whether about the time that was which is recorded in the latter part of the chapter, in the seven and twentieth year of Jehoiachin's captivity, is not easy to say; I am inclined to think it was about the time of the latter, since the time of the fulfilment of it is said to be near, Ezekiel 30:3:

saying: as follows:

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

Third prophecy Ezekiel 30:1-19 against Egypt, probably to be connected with the previous verses (compare Ezekiel 30:10 with the Ezekiel 29:17-21 note). Some consider it to belong to the earlier part of Ezekiel 29:0 (compare Ezekiel 29:10, Ezekiel 29:12 with Ezekiel 30:5-6).

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

CHAPTER XXX

This chapter describes, with great force and elegance, the ruin

of Egypt and all her allies by the Chaldeans under

Nebuchadnezzar, 1-11;

with an amplification of the distress of the principal cities

of Egypt on that occasion, 12-19.

The remaining verses are a short prophecy relating to the same

event, and therefore annexed to the longer one preceding,

although this was predicted sooner, 20-26.
