THE MESSAGE
"Take the ordination ram and boil the meat in the Holy Place. At the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, Aaron and his sons will eat the boiled ram and the bread that is in the basket. Atoned by these offerings, ordained and consecrated by them, they are the only ones who are to eat them. No outsiders are to eat them; they're holy. Anything from the ordination ram or from the bread that is left over until morning you are to burn up. Don't eat it; it's holy.
New American Standard Bible (1995)
"You shall take the ram of ordination and boil its flesh in a holy place.

Contextual Overview

1“This is what you are to do for them to consecrate them to serve me as priests. Take a young bull and two unblemished rams, 2with unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers coated with oil. Make them out of fine wheat flour, 3put them in a basket, and bring them in the basket, along with the bull and two rams. 4Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water. 5Then take the garments and clothe Aaron with the tunic, the robe for the ephod, the ephod itself, and the breastpiece; fasten the ephod on him with its woven waistband. 6Put the turban on his head and place the holy diadem on the turban. 7Take the anointing oil, pour it on his head, and anoint him. 8You must also bring his sons and clothe them with tunics. 9Tie the sashes on Aaron and his sons and fasten headbands on them. The priesthood is to be theirs by a permanent statute. This is the way you will ordain Aaron and his sons. 10“You are to bring the bull to the front of the tent of meeting, and Aaron and his sons must lay their hands on the bull’s head.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

And thou shalt take the ram of the consecration,.... For the other ram was cut in pieces and burnt, even the whole of it:

and seethe his flesh in the holy place; not in that part of the tabernacle which was properly the holy place, as distinguished from the holy of holies, and from the court of the tabernacle; for in that there was no convenience for boiling, but in the court of the tabernacle of the congregation, even at the door of it, as in Leviticus 8:31.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

The consecration of the priests. See the notes to Lev. 8–9.

Exodus 29:4

Door of the tabernacle - Entrance of the tent. See Leviticus 8:3.

Exodus 29:27

The “waving” was the more solemn process of the two: it was a movement several times repeated, while “heaving” was simply a “lifting up” once.

Exodus 29:33

A stranger - One of another family, i. e. in this case, one not of the family of Aaron.
