¹ And Jehovah spoke to Moses in mount Sinai, saying, ² Speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them, When ye come into the land that I will give you, the land shall celebrate a sabbath to Jehovah. ³ Six years shalt thou sow thy field, and six years shalt thou prune thy vineyard, and gather in the produce thereof, ⁴ but in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest for the land, a sabbath to Jehovah. Six years thou shalt sow thy field,.... Under which is comprehended everything relating to agriculture, both before and after sowing, as dunging the land, ploughing and harrowing it, treading the corn, reaping and gathering it in; see Exodus 23:10;

and six years thou shall prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof; which is not to be restrained to vineyards only, but to be extended to oliveyards, orchards and gardens, and to the planting and cultivating of them, and gathering in the fruits of them.
