Good News Translation

Joab, whose mother was Zeruiah, and David's other officials met them at the pool, where they all sat down, one group on one side of the pool and the other group on the opposite side.

And so that place in Gibeon is called "Field of Swords." ¹⁷ Then a furious battle broke out, and Abner and the Israelites were defeated by David's men.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

On the east of the hill (El-jib, the ancient Gibeon) is a copious spring, which issues in a cave excavated in the limestone rock, so as to form a large reservoir. In the trees further down are the remains of a pool or tank of considerable size (120 feet by 110 feet). This is doubtless “the pool of Gibeon.”
