The sons of Issachar were Tola, Puah, Jashub, and Shimron—four sons. The sons of Tola were Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam, and Samuel—the chiefs of their families. During David's reign, the Tola family counted 22,600 warriors in their lineage. The son of Uzzi was Izrahiah; the sons of Izrahiah were Michael, Obadiah, Joel, and Isshiah—five sons and all of them chiefs. They counted 36,000 warriors in their lineage because they had more wives and sons than their brothers. The extended families of Issachar accounted for 87,000 warriors—all of them listed in the family tree.

In the family history of Tola's descendants, twenty-two thousand six hundred men were listed as fighting men during the time David was king. 3 Uzzi's son was Izrahiah. Izrahiah's sons were Michael, Obadiah, Joel, and Isshiah. All five of them were leaders. 4 Their family history shows they had thirty-six thousand men ready to serve in the army, because they had many wives and children. 5 The records of the family groups of Issachar show there were eighty-seven thousand fighting men. 6 Benjamin had three sons: Bela, Beker, and Jediael. 7 Bela had five sons: Ezbon, Uzzi, Uzziel, Jerimoth, and Iri, and they were leaders of their families. Now the sons of Issachar were Tola, Puah, Jashub, and Shimron, four. The same number is given, Genesis 46:13 with a small variation of two of their names, there called Phuvah and Job, from whence so many families sprang, mentioned Numbers 26:23, where the names are the same as here.
