THE MESSAGE
God spoke to Moses: He said, "Take Aaron and with him his sons, the garments, the anointing oil, the bull for the Absolution-Offering, the two rams, and the basket of unraised bread. Gather the entire congregation at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting." Moses did just as God commanded him and the congregation gathered at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.

¹ The Lord said to Moses, ² "Take Aaron and his sons, and the clothing, the oil for holy use, the bull for the sin gift, the two rams and the basket of bread without yeast. ³ And gather together all the people at the door of the meeting tent." ⁴ So Moses did just as the Lord told him. The people were gathered together at the door of the meeting tent. ⁵ Moses said to the people, "This is what the Lord has said to do." ⁶ Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water. ⁷ He dressed him with the coat, the belt, the long piece of clothing, and the linen vest. He tied the well-made rope of the linen vest, to keep his clothing in place. ⁸ Then he put the breast-piece on him. And he put the Urim and the Thummim into the breast-piece. ⁹ He put the head covering on his head. And the Lord spake unto Moses,.... The following section or paragraph, relating to the consecration of Aaron and his sons, was delivered, according to Jarchi, seven days before the setting up of the tabernacle; but to me it seems to have been delivered after the setting it up, since it was out of the tabernacle that the Lord said all those things recorded in the preceding chapters; and after he had given out the laws concerning sacrifices, then he renewed the order for the consecration of Aaron and his sons, that they might offer them:

saying; as follows.

CHAPTER VIII

Moses is commanded to consecrate Aaron and his sons, 1-3.

Moses convenes the congregation; washes, clothes, and anoints

Aaron, 4-12.

He also clothes Aaron's sons, 13.

Offers a bullock for them as a sin-offering, 14-17.

And a ram for a burnt-offering, 18-21.

And another ram for a consecration-offering, 22-24.

The fat, with cakes of unleavened bread, and the right shoulder

of the ram, he offers as a wave-offering, and afterwards burns,

25-28.

The breast, which was the part of Moses, he also waves, 29.

And sprinkles oil and blood upon Aaron and his sons, 30.

The flesh of the consecration ram is to be boiled and eaten at

the door of the tabernacle, 31, 32.

Moses commands Aaron and his sons to abide seven days at the

door of the tabernacle of the congregation, which they do

accordingly, 33-36.
