THE MESSAGE
"And we're here today bringing you good news: the Message that what God promised the fathers has come true for the children—for us! He raised Jesus, exactly as described in the second Psalm: My Son! My very own Son! Today I celebrate you! "When he raised him from the dead, he did it for good—no going back to that rot and decay for him. That's why Isaiah said, ‘I'll give to all of you David's guaranteed blessings.' So also the psalmist's prayer: ‘You'll never let your Holy One see death's rot and decay.'

Contextual Overview

14Paul and Barnabas struck a long trot inland for Antioch of Pisidia. On the day of rest, they went to the local Jewish church for the services. 15After the usual readings from the Good Book of Moses, the preachers invited Paul and Barnabas saying, "If y'all cowboys got a word from the Lord, we'd love to hear it." 16So Paul got up and motioned for everyone to quiet down. He said, "Listen up you cowboys from Israel and you God-fearing mavericks. 17The God of Israel chose our granddaddies over everyone else. He even strengthened them while they were slaves in Egypt and 18he was with 'em during the forty years in the wilderness after he set 'em free. 19He led the charge and defeat of seven mighty nations in Canaan so his kids could have the country he promised 'em. 20Everything I've just said took about four hundred and fifty years. After this, God gave Israel some cowboys he called Judges to lead the nation. This went on until the time of Samuel the prophet. 21Then the people were crying out for a king and God gave 'em Saul, son of Kish. This cowboy was from the Benjamin outfit and he ruled for forty years. 22After God got rid of Saul, he made David the king. God said this about David, 'I have found this buckaroo, David, son of Jesse, to be a man after my own heart. He will do everything I tell him to do.' 23"From David descendants, God gave us the Top Hand who would save Israel from their sins just like he promised to.

Gill's Notes on the Bible

And we declare unto you glad tidings,.... The whole of the Gospel, concerning the incarnation, obedience, sufferings, death, and resurrection of Christ, and the benefits arising from thence, as peace, pardon, righteousness, life, and salvation; all which are good news and glad tidings to sensible sinners; and which are declared and published by the ministers of the Gospel, according to the commission given them, as here by Paul and Barnabas:

how that the promise which was made unto the fathers; not barely and solely that which respects the resurrection of Christ, but the mission of him, the exhibition of him in human nature, his incarnation, his work and business he was to do, namely, to obtain salvation for his people; it chiefly regards the promise of his coming into the world to do the will of God, which promise was made to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Judah, Genesis 22:18.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

And we - We who are here present. Paul and Barnabas.

Declare unto you glad tidings - We preach the gospel the good news. To a Jew, nothing could be more grateful intelligence than that the Messiah had come; to a sinner convinced of his sins nothing can be more cheering than to hear of a Saviour.

The promise ... - The promise here refers to all that had been spoken in the Old Testament respecting the advent, sufferings, death, and resurrection of Christ.

Clarke's Notes on the Bible

Verse 32. We declare unto you glad tidings — We proclaim that Gospel to you which is the fulfilment of the promise made unto the fathers.
